Mary Silverwood - Desert Shadows

Giving high priority to composition and color, Mary Silverwood explores the patterns of light, shadow, and form that make the Southwest an ever-changing treasure of artistic inspiration. Since her first solo show at a Sonoma County Winery in 1989, Silverwood has become a leading exponent of the pastel medium and has contributed greatly to a growing appreciation for the medium among collectors and other artists. Ventana Fine Art proudly announces our third annual Silverwood show beginning with a reception on Friday, September 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. Silverwood began visiting New Mexico in 1980 and returned each year to paint, until in 2000, when she made New Mexico her permanent home. Her paintings have been shown in 17 group shows, 22 solo exhibitions, and six museum shows. New paintings in "Desert Shadows" reveal Silverwood's love of her adopted home state and her virtuosic mastery of the medium. Strength and saturation of color in Silverwood's paintings are the perfect counterpoint to the soft complexion of pastel. "Desert Shadows" runs from September 30 through October 15.
